About Deborah

Aloha! My name is Deborah Barry. Welcome to my website. Thank you for welcoming me to your beautiful community. I’d like to introduce myself. I’m originally from Kansas, where I did my undergraduate studying at the University of Kansas, and received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology. After college, I moved to St. Croix, USVI, where I worked for a pharmaceutical company as a chemist. During my time there, I sustained a wrist injury while ocean kayaking. In seeking pain relief, I had my first acupuncture treatment. I was amazed how great I felt after the treatment. My wrist pain was almost completely gone and I literally felt euphoric. After more treatments and talking with the acupuncturist, I finally found my career. I moved to San Diego and began my acupuncture studies at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, known now as Pacific College of Health and Sciences. After completing the four year program, I opened up a practice in La Mesa, CA. I had a successful practice there for 17 years before moving to Naalehu last year. I love the Aloha spirit in Hawaii and have wanted to move here for years. My sister and her family live in Oahu, and I have been coming to the Big Island for retreats for the last 11 years. So now my dreams have been fulfilled by doing work that I love and living in Hawaii, which I love... I have a Masters of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine, am a graduate of the Worsley Classical 5 Element Acupuncture, and am a Board Certified Acupuncturist in both Hawaii and California.
